HAIR UPDATE / FIXES - 12.16.2011

I fixed the shininess issue that all of my frohawks had.  They should look significantly more matte now.  Also, I added some shading to the crevasse at the bottom of the hawk and increased the texture's contrast, which should improve the appearance... especially if used with lighter hair colors.

Please redownload (unless, for some reason, you like ungodly shiny hair).

I love the hairstyles you make! However, ever since I updated my game to the 1.29 patch none of them are working the way they should. I don't know if you or anyone else is experiencing this. My custom hair and accessories are the only things that are affected.

I should mention that I am using a Mac... maybe that effects why my cc hair and accessories don't show up since I upgraded to 1.29....

I don't have the Pets

I don't have the Pets expansion, so my game hasn't been running the latest patches for a long time.

Is it just my hair that isn't working or all hair and all custom accessories? If it's the latter, then you're probably better off asking about this at a site like MTS. I'm not really a code person or exceedingly savvy with tech support.

Yeah, I don't have the pets expansion either, but i have just installed the new patch that upgrades the base game and all expansions. After that all my cc hair and accessories (mainly body piercings) stopped working properly. For example, I can see the cornrows on your frohawk, but the actual fro part is flat. For the bunhawk, nothing shows. I've been looking at posts on MTS and other sites and no one seems to be talking about problems with hair and accessories, so I'm thinking it may be a problem relating to how the patch affects Macs.

I like the textures so should I download the fixes?? Like is there some clipping or something I didn't notice? Because I like shiny hair personally!! I mean it is ethnic hair, as a black woman we use oil sheen on fro's....So it's how it's supposed to look I think!!!

The fixes just reduce the overall "chrome" effect on the hair. The older textures would make the hair extremely bright, almost glowing, from some angles, and extremely dark from others. For the fixed version, the extremeness of the glow is reduced and the actual texture is still the same (it even has a bit higher contrast for more dimension now) and allows you to shade the hair to create contrasts, highlight, and some shine

Compare the blonde girl's hair in the preview pic (it gets much brighter than that in certain lighting):

If you like the old textures, then you may want to make a backup of them if you try the fix because the fix will replace the old textures. Personally, I think the fix is a definite improvement, so I will not be keeping a backup of the old textures.

Thanks for explaining that, it was very informative. I did look at both textures in the game and you are absolutely right the second texture does give it more subtle shine than the first.....Thanks again these two fro hawks have become my favorite hairstyle on my simmies......
